About This Dog for Adoption

Loki's ideal home

Loki needs a quiet home where any children are 14 and over and he can be the only pet. He has daily medication to manage breed related spinal pain and he also has minor luxating patellas. Loki is house trained and once settled in he can be left for three or four hours without worry.

Could you be Loki's perfect match?

Loki was a very nervous little sausage when he first arrived but he has settled well. He's much happier out on walks than he is in his kennel but when the centre is quiet he will curl up in his bed for a nap or play with his toys. On a walk, Loki is curious about other dogs but he isn't quite beave enough to approach them. It would be nice for him to have some walking pals but he shouldn't be forced in to interactions with any dogs he's not sure about. On arrival, Loki was spinning in his kennel and growling at his back end. We believe he has some spinal pain that is related to his Dachshund shape and he has been receiving pain relief that has certainly reduced the spinning. His family must be sure not to encourage any spinning if he is seen doing it. Loki loves to play with his toys and chasing after balls seems to be his favourite now that he is feeling better.

Dachshund Buying Checklist

We highly recommend every buyer reads through the below advice when purchasing or rehoming a Dachshund.

  • View the animal in the place it was born and raised - check for genuine home environments if buying privately, or the quality of the breeders set-up if applicable.
  • If viewing a puppy under 8 weeks, by law they MUST be seen with their mum.
  • Make sure the animal's old enough to be rehomed. 8 weeks should be the earliest a puppy can be rehomed.
  • By law, all dogs MUST be microchipped
  • Review and verify any documents, such as KC registration paperwork where applicable

Avoid Potential Scams

There are a number of red flags to look out for when purchasing a new puppy:

  • Seller demands a deposit without allowing you to see the dog first - never send any money before meeting the animal in person
  • Seller is reluctant to send you additional photos or videos
  • Seller offers to deliver the dog/puppy
  • Seller asks to meet in a mutual location
  • Seller uses fake or stolen photos from the internet. Always carry out a "Google image search".
  • Seller asks to immediately switch to communication off the Dachshund Owners website
  • Seller uses a different phone number to the one listed on the website - especially if that phone number is in one of the advert images

Although we have a number of automated systems in place to prevent scam and fraudulant adverts, these can never be 100% accurate and its important to use caution when buying online. We do not accept any responsibility for transactions between our users, especially when our safe buying advice is not followed.
