About This Dog for Adoption

Murphy's ideal home

Murphy is starting his search for his new forever home, and would thrive in an adult only household with minimal visitors as he can be worried by strangers. Murphy also struggles around other dogs, so would like to be the only pet in the home, and will rely on his adopters to advocate for his space when out and about to help build his confidence. He is a clever boy, already knowing his name, sit, touch and spin, and is eager to learn more if some smelly, high value treats are on offer. He is currently working closely with our behaviour team who have started his muzzle training, something which the team will be able to show potential adopters during meets here at the centre. Murphy will need his own secure, private garden to allow him lots of fun off lead time to zoom around and play a fun game of fetch. He was housetrained in his previous home, so having access to a garden will also help when refreshing this skill. Murphy needs his new family to be home most of the day initially, and once he is secure and settled in the home, will be able to have his leaving hours built up gradually. He will need to meet his adopters multiple times prior to going home and may need a home trial to make sure he transitions smoothly into his new home. Please note that should you be shortlisted, our rehoming process usually takes 7-10 days, but this can be longer depending on the needs of the dog.

Could you be Murphy's perfect match?

Meet Murphy, the sweetest little Dachshund who is 2 and a half years old and full of love to give. This sensitive lad is eager for a new best friend – someone who he can cuddle up to on the sofa after a fun play session. Murphy loves to chase balls, and eagerly returns them for you to throw again. Murphy will make an adorable and very fun addition to a very lucky and understanding home!

Dachshund Buying Checklist

We highly recommend every buyer reads through the below advice when purchasing or rehoming a Dachshund.

  • View the animal in the place it was born and raised - check for genuine home environments if buying privately, or the quality of the breeders set-up if applicable.
  • If viewing a puppy under 8 weeks, by law they MUST be seen with their mum.
  • Make sure the animal's old enough to be rehomed. 8 weeks should be the earliest a puppy can be rehomed.
  • By law, all dogs MUST be microchipped
  • Review and verify any documents, such as KC registration paperwork where applicable

Avoid Potential Scams

There are a number of red flags to look out for when purchasing a new puppy:

  • Seller demands a deposit without allowing you to see the dog first - never send any money before meeting the animal in person
  • Seller is reluctant to send you additional photos or videos
  • Seller offers to deliver the dog/puppy
  • Seller asks to meet in a mutual location
  • Seller uses fake or stolen photos from the internet. Always carry out a "Google image search".
  • Seller asks to immediately switch to communication off the Dachshund Owners website
  • Seller uses a different phone number to the one listed on the website - especially if that phone number is in one of the advert images

Although we have a number of automated systems in place to prevent scam and fraudulant adverts, these can never be 100% accurate and its important to use caution when buying online. We do not accept any responsibility for transactions between our users, especially when our safe buying advice is not followed.
